On December 19-23, 2016, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti organized the second stage of training “Basic Teaching Methodologies” for predefined trainers of the Georgian Intellectual Property Training Center.

The training, which was aimed to provide the participants with the skills required to deliver in future training for target audiences, included technical and methodological preparation of an intellectual property training program, on the basis of the target audience, elaborating self-assessment exercises and support training materials according to pre-defined standards. The methodology of conducting the teaching process using scientific approaches includes various techniques and stages of teaching, which will ensure highly effective implementation of the goals determined by the curricula. ...

On December 13-14, 2016, a delegation of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), headed by Ms. Cornelia Moussa, Director of Human Resources Management Department, paid an official visit to Georgia.

A meeting was held with the management of Sakpatenti, during which the opportunity of employment of Georgian specialists in WIPO and drafting a relevant working plan in this respect were discussed. Mr. Nikoloz Gogilidze, Chairman of Sakpatenti, stressed the necessity of employment of intellectual property specialists in WIPO and active participation of representatives of this field in vacancies. It was also discussed that it is necessary to define in various offices contact persons to coordinate providing to relevant target groups the information on the vacancies announced by WIPO. ...

“OriGin Georgia”, founded by Sakpatenti and the National Wine Agency of Georgia, has become a member of the global alliance “OriGIn” and will continue the activities under its logo. The ceremony of signing the Trademark License and Partnership Agreement took place today on October 28, 2016, during the Conference “Branding Strategies”, held in Tbilisi. ...

Today, on October 27, 2016, the Conference “Branding Strategies” opened, aimed at introducing to Georgian producers and farmers the advantages of products protected by geographical indications on the market in Georgia as well as worldwide. The conference, organized by the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – SAKPATENTI and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), was opened by Ms. Binying Wang, Deputy Director General of WIPO. The event is attended by more than 120 producers and farmers from all regions of Georgia. The topics of discussion include: geographical indications as a marketing instrument for Georgian exports, use of designs and packaging in branding strategies for geographic origin, reputation and image of brands in the marketplace, as well as the role of producers associations in developing and implementing effective branding strategies. ...

The Finnish model of investigation of intellectual property rights crimes and ways of collection of relevant evidence were introduced to the representatives of the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, the General Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, the Customs Department of the Revenue Service, Sakpatenti and the private sector, attending the training held on October 25-27, 2016. ...

On September 29, 2016, Sakpatenti hosted Professor Yuriy Boshytsky, Rector of Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. During the meeting Sakpatenti Chairman Mr. Nikoloz Gogilidze and Prof. Boshytsky discussed educational programs available in Ukraine and Georgia in the intellectual property field and stressed the significance of cooperation between Georgia and Ukraine in this respect. The parties also outlined plans for mutual cooperation within Sakpatenti Intellectual Property Training Centre. At the meeting the parties agreed to draft a joint action plan. In addition, Sakpatenti Chairman was officially invited to Kyiv University of Law to deliver a lecture for students on problematic issues in the intellectual property field. ...
