Sakpatenti has been informed that organization “IP Direct – International Patent & Trademark Directory” is sending letters to applicants of international trademarks and their representatives, requesting payment of trademark registration/publication fees.

We inform you that this organization does not have anything in common with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). We also highlight that information on registration of international trademarks is published in the “WIPO Gazette of International Trademarks”, it is the only official publication of the Madrid system.

It is noteworthy that any fee established for benefiting from the Madrid system shall be paid by applicants to WIPO in Swiss Francs.

We ask you to be careful with any letters received from unknown organizations concerning payment of fees for unlawful services. In case of receiving similar correspondence of doubtful origin please consult patent attorneys or contact us: info@sakpatenti.org.ge, tel.: 2 25 25 33. ...

On March 2-4, 2017, an Istanbul International Inventions Fair was held, in which National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia Sakpatenti participated, along with 264 organizations from 24 countries. For 4207 registered visitors of the Fair, 324 inventions were presented. The event was organized under the patronage of the Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology of Turkey, International Federation of Inventors Associations (IFIA), World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), European Patent Office (EPO) and Turkish Patent and Trademark Office (Turkpatent). The Sakpatenti’s main aim in participating at the Fair is to facilitate increase of patent applications number from Turkey, as the major importer country for Georgia. ...

On February 27, 2017, the thirty-third session of the WIPO Intergovernmental Committee on Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Folklore was opened.

The Committee’s aim is to closer the WIPO member states representatives positions and reaching final conclusion on the text of international agreement which will ensure the effective protection of traditional cultural expressions (TCEs). ...

On February 27, 2017, the Millennium Challenge Foundation revealed the winning team of the Millennium Innovation Competition. “Smart Kids” was selected as the winner of the Project “Geological Threats” among thirteen finalist, winners will participate in NASA’s Space Center University educational program. The award ceremony took place at Tbilisi Municipality City Assembly events hall.

This year, the second place was granted to two teams - “Borjghalmobili”, with the Project “Moon Rover Engine”, and “17”, with the Project “Magnetic Elevator”. ...

On December 19-23, 2016, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti organized the second stage of training “Basic Teaching Methodologies” for predefined trainers of the Georgian Intellectual Property Training Center.

The training, which was aimed to provide the participants with the skills required to deliver in future training for target audiences, included technical and methodological preparation of an intellectual property training program, on the basis of the target audience, elaborating self-assessment exercises and support training materials according to pre-defined standards. The methodology of conducting the teaching process using scientific approaches includes various techniques and stages of teaching, which will ensure highly effective implementation of the goals determined by the curricula. ...

On December 13-14, 2016, a delegation of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), headed by Ms. Cornelia Moussa, Director of Human Resources Management Department, paid an official visit to Georgia.

A meeting was held with the management of Sakpatenti, during which the opportunity of employment of Georgian specialists in WIPO and drafting a relevant working plan in this respect were discussed. Mr. Nikoloz Gogilidze, Chairman of Sakpatenti, stressed the necessity of employment of intellectual property specialists in WIPO and active participation of representatives of this field in vacancies. It was also discussed that it is necessary to define in various offices contact persons to coordinate providing to relevant target groups the information on the vacancies announced by WIPO. ...

“OriGin Georgia”, founded by Sakpatenti and the National Wine Agency of Georgia, has become a member of the global alliance “OriGIn” and will continue the activities under its logo. The ceremony of signing the Trademark License and Partnership Agreement took place today on October 28, 2016, during the Conference “Branding Strategies”, held in Tbilisi. ...

Today, on October 27, 2016, the Conference “Branding Strategies” opened, aimed at introducing to Georgian producers and farmers the advantages of products protected by geographical indications on the market in Georgia as well as worldwide. The conference, organized by the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia – SAKPATENTI and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), was opened by Ms. Binying Wang, Deputy Director General of WIPO. The event is attended by more than 120 producers and farmers from all regions of Georgia. The topics of discussion include: geographical indications as a marketing instrument for Georgian exports, use of designs and packaging in branding strategies for geographic origin, reputation and image of brands in the marketplace, as well as the role of producers associations in developing and implementing effective branding strategies. ...

The Finnish model of investigation of intellectual property rights crimes and ways of collection of relevant evidence were introduced to the representatives of the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, the General Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, the Customs Department of the Revenue Service, Sakpatenti and the private sector, attending the training held on October 25-27, 2016. ...

On September 29, 2016, Sakpatenti hosted Professor Yuriy Boshytsky, Rector of Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. During the meeting Sakpatenti Chairman Mr. Nikoloz Gogilidze and Prof. Boshytsky discussed educational programs available in Ukraine and Georgia in the intellectual property field and stressed the significance of cooperation between Georgia and Ukraine in this respect. The parties also outlined plans for mutual cooperation within Sakpatenti Intellectual Property Training Centre. At the meeting the parties agreed to draft a joint action plan. In addition, Sakpatenti Chairman was officially invited to Kyiv University of Law to deliver a lecture for students on problematic issues in the intellectual property field. ...

New prospects of business development were discussed during the Conference “Women’s Role in Country Development”, held on September 28, 2016. Up to 100 entrepreneur women familiarized with programs, specially designed to support entrepreneur women as well as with new opportunities of financial and technical assistance. Mrs. Sophio Mujiri, Deputy Chairperson of National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti, delivered a presentation on tools of intellectual property rights protection for the participants of the event. Taking into account the great interest displayed by the audience with respect to the issue, it was planned to organize for entrepreneur women meetings on various topics, during which different subject-matters of intellectual property will be discussed. ...

A certificate of IDFI has been handed over to Sakpatenti once again. National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti was nominated among 55 public institutions with the 100% rate in accessibility of public information. The award ceremony of the most open and the least open public institutions in Georgia was held at Courtyard Marriott hotel on September 28, 2016 - the International Day for Universal Access to Information. ...

On September 26, a delegation of the Austrian Patent Office (APO), headed by its President Ms. Mariana Karepova, paid an official visit to Tbilisi. A bilateral meeting took place at Sakpatenti office between the representatives of National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti and APO to discuss issues related to cooperation. Heads of the two offices agreed to draft an action plan, which will reflect a number of joint activities: capacity building trainings in Austria for Sakpatenti examiners; consultations with respect to development of innovation activities and the patent voucher program; organizing an educational course at Sakpatenti Training Centre with the participation of Austrian examiners. ...

On September 15-16, a Sub-Regional Conference on Intellectual Property Strategies will be held at Courtyard Marriott hotel, organized by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in cooperation with the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia Sakpatenti.

During the Conference, the national IP strategy draft, developed for Georgia with the support of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) will be considered. The significance of the efficient implementation of the drafted strategy for the development of the country will be discussed. ...

On September 13 and 14, 2016, Mr. Sherif Saadallah, Executive Director of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Intellectual Property Academy, paid an official visit to Georgia.

During the meeting with Mr. Nikoloz Gogilidze, Chairman of National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia Sakpatenti, the progress of the WIPO/Sakpatenti joint project related to the Intellectual Property Academy was considered and future cooperation plans were outlined, such as drafting a regional professional course on the protection of geographical indications, participation of schoolchildren in educational projects in the intellectual property field, translation of the WIPO Academy courses into the Georgian language and their adaptation. ...

A Memorandum of Understanding was concluded between the National Intellectual Property Centre of Georgia Sakpatenti and the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia. The document was signed by Mr. Giorgi Badashvili, Head of the Investigation Service, and Mr. Nikoloz Gogilidze, Chairman of Sakpatenti. ...
